The Walking Dead: Dead City is gearing up for it second season on AMC and AMC+. One of the numerous spinoffs of The Walking Dead, Dead City takes the story away from the woods and into the big city, Manhattan to be exact. This is quite the change from the setting of most of the series and greatly expands the universe. Before the premiere of season 2, where can you stream season 1?
Dead City serves as a sequel to events of TWD, which concluded in 2022. The spinoff begins several years after the main series and continues the stories of fan-favorite characters and long time enemies, Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
When the series was first announced, viewers weren't confident that the pairing of these characters in a spinoff would make sense. However, series creators Scott Gimple and Eli Jorné, who also serve as showrunner, did an excellent job setting up the pairing of Maggie and Negan. Cohan and Morgan serve as executive producers for the spinoff with Jorné.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 was recently announced for a premiere date of May 4, 2025. The series will air exclusively on AMC and AMC+ and the upcoming season will see Maggie and Negan on opposite sides once again.
If you have yet to watch the first season or need a refresher before watching season 2, Dead City currently streams via AMC+ and, beginning March 17, 2025, will join a long list of AMC originals on Netflix.
Dead City season 1
The first season of Dead City features the kidnapping of Maggie's son Hershel (Logan Kim) by a former member of Negan's Saviors, The Croat (Željko Ivanek). Maggie begins searching for Negan to aid her in rescuing her son. This takes them to the island of Manhattan which is overrun with the undead and many unsavory people.
Viewers were given insights into what has transpired for Negan and Maggie in the years since we last saw them in The Walking Dead. In addition to Manhattan, two other communities were introduced. Maggie's new home, The Bricks, and New Babylon Federation, a network of communities in Virginia.
Many new cast members were introduced in season 1, with several of their stories carrying over into the upcoming season. In addition to Morgan, Cohan, Kim, and Ivanek, returning cast members for season 2 include Mahina Napoleon (Ginny), Gaius Charles (Marshal Perlie Armstrong), Lisa Emery (The Dama), Pallavi Sastry (Nina), and Jasmin Walker (The Prefect).
