‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Is Like Two Pieces Of Cake
By Adam Carlson
Fear The Walking Dead is still set to hit the small screen this Summer. As details about the show keep leaking out, fans are being given more reason to either be excited about the program or be skeptical that it can succeed. While I will personally be watching Fear The Walking Dead no matter what, there are some that are worried the show doesn’t serve a real purpose or lacks direction.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the creator of The Walking Dead’s universe, Robert Kirkman, explained how Fear The Walking Dead is like having a bonus show inside a regular show.
Here is what Kirkman had to say about the show:
"“I think the idea of having a blended family and trying to make all that work is an interesting family dynamic that could be the basis of its own show. The fact that we have zombies in it is icing on the cake. And the fact that we are dealing with the very beginnings of the zombie apocalypse and watching the world crumble around them, and people are very much unprepared for this world that they’re in and having to very quickly adapt—that’s a second piece of cake next to the piece of a cake.”"

That’s a lot of cake. But Robert Kirkman is right. If not for the walkers, Fear The Walking Dead sounds like a somewhat traditional television show. It could be a regular show about two broken families coming together to try to make things work. When you add in the undead, it’s almost like a bonus.
But can Fear The Walking Dead survive as a drama? That will be the question that will need to be answered in order to gauge the chances for the show’s success. The program will have to prove that they can continue to create characters that people care about and be able to draw on emotions the way that The Walking Dead has in the past.
I think of it this way. The Walking Dead is a great piece of cake. I know for sure I’m eating that piece. But Fear The Walking Dead is that second piece that I took just in case I was still a bit hungry for dessert after finishing the first slice. And I have a feeling that Fear The Walking Dead will not disappoint me for getting seconds on my cake.
