The Walking Dead Comics #143: A Union
By Adam Carlson
Things have been relatively quiet on the comic book front for The Walking Dead since the end of the All Out War and the recent incidents involving Negan. However, with the release of issue #143, things will be heating up really quickly for the survivors.
***WARNING: Comic Spoilers Below***
The biggest thing to come out of The Walking Dead #143 is that young Carl Grimes might not be following in the footsteps of his father. After a couple months of teasing a rocky relationship between the two, it seems as though Carl is ready to part ways with his father’s community and leave with Lydia.
Is Carl following love? Or is he leaving because of his insecurities due to his disfigurement? Could this lead to a clash between father and son in the future?
In addition to Carl’s dilemma, The Whisperers are in full force. They’ve already been shown to be stealthy, deadly threats to anyone who gets in their way. When you add in a possible Carl Grimes in that mess, you have a group that will truly be a force to be reckoned with.
The slow build with both The Whisperers and Carl Grimes paid off in a big way in The Walking Dead #143. In fact, when some readers were thinking that the series was getting stale, the breakout of Negan, Carl turning his back, and the emergence of The Whisperers have brought a new excitement to the pages of the graphic novel.
The Walking Dead #144 is set to hit newsstands and stores on July 8, 2015. Hopefully, we’ll learn a lot more about the developing relationship between Carl and Lydia as well as find out how Rick Grimes will react to the developments of issue #143.
