facebooktwitterreddit

Art and creativity abound in The Walking Dead fandom. I’ve highlighted many fan artists over the last few months as well as creative uses of action figures. Let’s take a look back at them.

Fan Artists

Elizabeth, the barista, creates pencil portraits that are amazingly realistic and works of shaded beauty, emotion and perfection. Her work is truly professional and must be seen. She is quite prolific. If you are inspired to find out more about Elizabeth, click

Kirk Manley: The Batman

Kirk is a professional comic book artist who even illustrates his own comic book with a friend. He has recently begun a series of tribute posters for Season Five of The Walking Dead. When I wrote about him, I compared him to El Greco.  Google El Greco and see what I mean! From the unimaginable detail to the colors and shapes that keep your eyes moving and stopping to take in each beautiful section, the Batman’s work is truly incredible! Please check out more

. His art is too big to appreciate in this small picture. It needs to be in a museum.

Jamie from Ireland

Jamie is a sixteen year old aspiring artist who looks up to the two artists just mentioned. It’s fun to see how Twitter has created Walking Dead buddies of these artists. Jamie goes to school and doesn’t have as much time to draw as he would like, but he loves it and is quite talented. Whereas Elizabeth works in pencil, Jamie works in pen. Jamie is a wonderful kid to get to know on Twitter as well. All of the artists I’ve met through Twitter are so humble and kind and appreciative of compliments on their work. Click

Eric Keyes: Monkeyes

Eric is a cartoonist and works on the TV show The Simpsons. His cartoon work, humor and love of The Walking Dead blend beautifully in his fan art and cartoons about the characters and episodes. His work is whimsical and adorable. It is definitely cartoon work and that makes it quite unique. It’s not intended to be realistic portraiture. But you can certainly tell who the cartoons represent. I’m a huge fan! Check out Eric’s full article

 Wendy, the Woodburner

Wendy is from the Netherlands and she does an art called pyrography. She doesn’t use pencil, or pen or a paint brush. She uses a special tool with tips that burn the wood to create different shading and effects.  This process is quite time consuming and slow, but she says she loses all sense of time when she’s working on a project. Jacqueline is another woodburner. She’s self-taught as well. She confirmed that it is a slow and time-consuming process.  Her Rick and Daryl piece took 45 hours from start to finish. Woodburning is quite unique. Be sure to check out more about Jacqueline

Alexes of Tiny Daryl’s Adventures uses her Walking Dead action figures to create hilarious scenarios with captions. Since I wrote about her

, she has added more Tiny characters to her collection and inspired people all over the Walking Dead fandom to use their Tinys (I am a huge copycat! Imitation greatest form of flattery and all that!) Where in the World is Mike Cudlitz aka Abraham Ford?

Who’s Deanna? No! Where’s Abraham? Fans on this Facebook page take their Abraham Ford action figures and document Abe’s whereabouts with picture proof and the hashtag #wwmc. Abraham has traveled quite extensively so far to vacation spots and baseball games, hockey games and local taverns. It’s a fun group of fans to join or follow. Check them out

Another form of creative artistry that I have yet to highlight is cosplay or costume play. Some of these fans do amazing things. I hope you’ve enjoyed some highlights of fan art and creativity that I’ve found so far around Twitter and Facebook. Please let me know if you’re an artist or know of any creative fans that deserve to be highlighted. That’s what we’re about at Fansided-talking about The Walking Dead from a true fan’s  perspective!
