Fear the Walking Dead: Won’t use word zombie
By Susie Graham
Like the original show, The Walking Dead, the new Fear the Walking Dead, premiering on August 23rd, will not use the word zombie to refer to the infected undead.
The names of the zombies on The Walking Dead are one if the most creative and fun things about the show. Most fans routinely refer to them as walkers. There are different names that have been used by different factions and groups we’ve encountered: biters, skin-eaters, lame brains, rotters, roamers, and geeks to name a few.
A burning question for me once Fear was announced was what the new walkers would be called. I was pretty certain they were still not zombies!
At Comic-Con San Diego, Cliff Curtis , FTWD star told Yahoo TV that they were banned from calling it a zombie show and so far the walkers are called,
"“Humans that have been infected by a very mysterious virus of which we do not have any understanding.”"
Not quite as catchy or succinct as walkers or biters, but I know what he means. It’s the start of the outbreak. They will be describing them, possibly even just saying ‘things’ or monsters or dead or a variety of descriptors.
However, I’m quite sure they will eventually have simple and brilliantly awesome common nicknames for the infected, undead reanimated corpses, but in true Walking Dead tradition, that name won’t be revealed ahead of time. I hope nobody spoils that!
I’m happy just knowing that they’re not zombies and that it’s not a zombie show, but it’s filled with zombies!
