The Walking Dead: Letter to Mr. Gimple about Morgan
By Susie Graham
Dear Mr. Gimple, I know that the season has already been written and filmed, but I have a simple request from you about Morgan that I hope you can accommodate.
Morgan returned to us after 5 years. He was the one to teach us about the world of walkers. He patched up Rick and helped him on his way to give us the story we love.
All of our characters have struggled. Some have become like the monsters themselves. We’ve lost many. Many have become lost. We’ve found new friends and family along the way to protect and to help protect us.

I’ve loved the show through all the twists and turns and ups and downs. The fast and slow. The beauty in the ugly and the ugly in the beauty. It has touched me and consumed me more than most literature I can remember because it is over such a long period of time. I have favorite books, but this is like 20 favorite books that are the same book.
I’ve always secretly hoped that the underlying message would not turn out to be that we must be a monster to fight the monsters. One of my favorite things about the zombies as enemies is that they are not conspiring enemies. They don’t mean to be monsters. They have no conscience.

Morgan has a beautiful story. I believe he feels compassion for the Wolves because he was like them. He killed for no reason. He thought he wasn’t supposed to be here. That wolf Carol killed even told him he wasn’t supposed to be here, reminding him of how he used to be.
Next: Will Morgan make Carol face her losses?
Fans have turned on Morgan in favor of badass Carol. Please, Mr, Gimple, don’t let things be that black and white. Don’t let something happen that makes Morgan or Judith or others suffer for his humanity. I have many ideas. But I won’t presume to write the show. I just ask that we please not hate Morgan in the end.
Somehow let his lessons from the cheese maker have some meaning. Progress. The world is not over.
