The Walking Dead comic book issue #151 was released on February 3, 2016 and was titled “Call To Arms”, but it might be a HUGE change for a major character.

Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics’ The Walking Dead has been moving in an odd direction lately. After the actions of Alpha and The Whisperers left the people of Alexandria stunned and heartbroken, it was announced that Rick would help the people of the community learn to fight back.

Issue #151 of the comics focused on the training of soldiers from the Hilltop Community and Alexandria to move the major storylines forward, but it was the smaller events and conversations that made this issue such an important installation in the series.

The idea of leadership among the groups of survivors should be the biggest thing taken away from this issue of The Walking Dead. Rick Grimes is fully in charge of Alexandria and Maggie seems to have things under control at the Hilltop settlement, but trying to figure out who would run things at The Sanctuary and The Kingdom leaves things wide open.

Michonne seems to accept Rick’s nomination for her to take over things at The Kingdom, and the people of that community should accept her in that role. However, since this is The Walking Dead that is being discussed, there is no assurance that the transition could go off without a hitch.

The biggest moment in this book was when Michonne insinuated to Rick that Carl should be the one to take over The Sanctuary since Dwight isn’t willing to take on the responsibility. Rick didn’t seem to jump at the idea, but he didn’t totally dismiss it either. It would be interesting considering his relationship with Alpha’s daughter Lydia, but Carl seems to have his head on right, wanting to follow in his father’s footsteps.

Forgiveness and selflessness were other big themes in The Walking Dead #151, with Rick forgiving his former attacker and Gabriel wanting to fight for the people of Alexandria. It is these kind of gestures that can help give the zombie apocalypse the kind of humanity that it deserves.

With all that going on, one big question remains: Who was on the radio with Eugene at the end of the issue and what could their intentions be for the people of Alexandria once they find out more about their settlement?

Hopefully, we’ll get more answers when issue #152 of The Walking Dead is released on March 2, 2016 with an issue titled “United In Fear”. The title is apt, because each of the surviving group of people should be terrified of what Alpha and The Whisperers next move might be.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable issue. There was a lot going on, but all of it felt essential enough to the story that it was necessary to be included. The shifting of power and trying to figure out how each community will be run is an intriguing development, and the voice on the other side of the radio leaves enough up to question that fans should be anticipating next month’s issue.
