Issue #153 of The Walking Dead comic book was released on April 6, 2016 titled “Heavy Hangs The Head” and featured some intense and interesting moments.

The Walking Dead just had an intense moment on the hit AMC series, but the event of the comic book may be leading up to one of the bloodiest encounters yet. Leading up to April 6, 2016’s issue, which is #153 in the series and it titled “Heavy Hangs The Head”, Brandon had let Negan out of his cell, Eugene decided not to tell anyone about the voice on the other end of the radio, and The Saviors were looking for a new leader.

Now, things just look to get crazier. There is no way of knowing what Negan’s plan is now that he’s shed himself of Brandon. Will he continue to The Whisperers to warn them about the planned attack by Alexandria? Will he return to The Saviors and try to take back his leadership status? Or will he roll solo and be a thorn in the side of just about everyone in the comics? And will Michonne and Aaron catch up to him?

Oddly, one of the best parts of The Walking Dead #153 came when Dwight was holding Negan’s bat Lucille and talking about how he didn’t want it to end up being like a king’s scepter for the people at The Sanctuary. I had never thought of the deadly weapon in that way and can completely understand why Dwight didn’t want to leave it at The Sanctuary. But what’s the next step? Will he keep it? Destroy it? Give it to someone?

The Richmond group may have chosen the wrong time to feel left out, as the war with The Whisperers and Negan’s escape will likely take up all the attention of Rick and the leaders of Alexandria. Hopefully, they appreciate what the community has done, taking them in and helping them have a steady way of life. Still, feelings are a fragile thing, and there’s no telling what might happen if they continue to feel like neglected zombie bait.

Paul accidentally shooting Marco is an understandable mistake. Tension is at amazing levels in Alexandria and wanting to do everything to protect themselves after Alpha’s survivor head border line is normal when there is an unfamiliar face in the walls. But there has to be a better way of handing things than just shooting everyone who doesn’t immediately get recognized.

Sadly, the death of Brandon brought almost no emotion. It was almost a forgone conclusion considering how the little punk doesn’t show a lot of respect and actually expected Negan to follow through on his end of the deal. He was never going to be loyal to Alexandria and was more of a threat to safety than an asset to keep order. Still, any time there is a death in the pages of the comics, it reminds fans of just how quickly characters can go…and what possible future blood will be spilled.

Overall, issue #153 of The Walking Dead was a great step toward what should be a bloody and horrible war. With a wild card on the loose in Negan and The Sanctuary up for grabs when it comes to a leader, it will be interesting to see what will happen next.
