Fear The Walking Dead season 2B: Whats next for Ofelia?
By Adam Carlson
Things have been difficult for Ofelia Salazar during Fear The Walking Dead’s second season, but how can she bounce back from the horror she’s seen?
When Ofelia Salazar was introduced on Fear The Walking Dead, she seemed like a quiet, unassuming woman who would fade into the background among the stronger characters and be forgotten about by many fans. However, the show’s direction has forced Ofelia into the spotlight in season 2.

Dealing with the loss of her mother Griselda, her father’s mental issues and lies, being shot by a man she may have had some feelings for, and witnessing torture on several occasions, Ofelia will need to step up in a major way during the second half of the show’s second season.
When the show left off, Ofelia was being helped into the truck with Alicia, Madison and Strand. They were driving away from the plantation in Mexico without her father and left Nick behind with Travis and Chris currently nowhere to be found.
Ofelia will have a lot of evolving to do in a short period of time. With fewer survivors with them, she will need to fight harder than she has ever fought before. However, that shouldn’t be much of a problem, as she has shown a devious nature and mental prowess when she was using Andrew Adams to get medication for her mother.

At this point, Ofelia is likely just along for the ride with Strand. It is unlikely she will speak up about wanting to return to the plantation for Daniel, but could need some time to accept that she may have lost him forever. But with a great support system around her like Madison, who was a school counselor, and possible kindred spirit Alicia, she shouldn’t struggle too badly on her own.
The destination may not be important, but now Ofelia will be fighting for her family. Whether or not Daniel is actually dead, she will think she is the last member of the Salazar family will find motivation in honoring her mother and father, even though they didn’t end on the best of terms.
Overall, Ofelia should be a more prominent character in Fear The Walking Dead‘s second half of season 2. Using this opportunity to build her character would be optimal for the record-breaking AMC zombie survival drama if they plan on having her stick around for a long time.
You can see Mercedes Mason as Ofelia Salazar when Fear The Walking Dead returns to AMC on August 21, 2016 for the second half of season 2. Hopefully, the show takes this character who hasn’t had much attention and turns that around now that the groups are split up and she can shine without supervision.
