Tension continues to build with issue #156 of the comic series, titled ‘Queen and King’ which was released on July 7, 2016. What does Negan’s interaction with The Whisperers mean for Rick and the gang? Will he form a dangerous partnership with Alpha? Or is he gathering formation for a potential return to The Sanctuary?
Many of those questions were answered in ‘Queen and King’ but other situations have come up. Here is what happened in issue #156 of The Walking Dead comics:
***WARNING: ISSUE 156 SPOILERS BELOW***
Beta expresses his displeasure with Negan spending time with The Whisperers, specifically the time with Alpha. She tells Beta that if he wants to step up to control The Whisperers, now is the time and he should follow her orders unless he wants to challenge her. Beta backs down and leaves Negan with Alpha.
Negan is impressed with Alpha’s command of power and allows him to take on the tasks to become part of the group. After working on chores around the community, shooting a boar with a bow and arrow and showing the strength to fight off walkers, he is accepted into the community and gets to eat with Alpha and Beta.
Negan is forced to sleep on the opposite side of the camp as Alpha and Beta, but stops dead in his tracks when he sees two men attempting to sexually assault a woman. He breaks it up, beating down the assailants before Beta steps in and knocks him down, telling him to stay down.
Negan is punished for his actions by making him sleep among the walkers with no protection. Alpha comes to talk to him, telling him that he has impressed her, but he may not be a fit for their community. Explaining that sexual assault is wrong, Negan is countered by the argument that the weak need to get strong or become prey.

Alpha goes on, saying that people have to learn to fight for themselves to survive and they’re all animals anyway. She even expressed remorse for allowing her own daughter to be used in the same way.
Pointing out that she is using Beta for protection and she could easily be overpowered in the community, Alpha breaks down. With the emotions from missing her daughter and blunt truth Negan dropped on her, she gets some comforting from Negan.
But that comfort was just a show, as Negan pulled his knife and slashed her throat. She fell to the ground, bleeding to death as Negan kept hacking at her neck. Detaching her head from her heck, he held it up and said “Wait until Rick gets a look at you…”
