Comic book review: The Walking Dead issue 169 ‘Lines We Cross’
By Adam Carlson
Was issue 169 of The Walking Dead comic book series any good? Here is a review of the July 2017 installment of the series titled ‘Lines We Cross’.
Sometimes, transitional issues are hard for comic book fans. Following an intense and emotional series of issues prior to the July 2017 issue of The Walking Dead, issue 169 slowed the action down but opened up several great situations.
If you haven’t read the issue yet, it is highly advised you do so or check out the FULL RECAP OF ISSUE 169 before continuing.
***WARNING: SPOILERS FROM TWD 169 BELOW***
First and foremost, the issue of the survivors in Ohio will finally be addressed. It was only a matter of time since Stephanie was introduced on the radio that fans would learn more about this group of survivors and it appears as though that will happen soon.
Other great issues were explored in ‘Lines We Cross’ as well. The fallout from the death of Sherry continues as Dwight is struggling to deal with his emotions and is taking it out on Rick. It was easy to assume that he wouldn’t be happy, but this kind of situation with Dwight, especially when including the threats from Rick, could be very messy going forward.

Other developments include Carl talking with Rick about Andrea’s death and how it makes him feel in Alexandria. Not only that, but he was able to talk with Lydia about killing Ben, which is something he hadn’t done yet. Plus, it strengthens his relationship with Lydia.
Past all that, there is the situation with Jesus and Aaron. At one time, both these men were known for their ability to leave the community and come back with people or supplies. However, now they are ready to settle down and not risk themselves outside the walls too much anymore, opening up others for that role in the future while establishing another couple.
Finally, Maggie asking Dante to track Negan is going to be interesting. While he is likely going to take up residence in a house somewhere near where Lucille is buried, knowing exactly where that is and being able to keep an eye in him is very valuable, especially when she doesn’t trust Negan one tiny bit.
As a whole, this issue of The Walking Dead wasn’t action packed, but it did set up what should be some fantastic stories to come. While it likely won’t be anyone’s favorite or command huge sales numbers, it is essential in keeping the story going and opening up the future of the series.
