Issue 175 of The Walking Dead from Image and Skybound titled ‘New World Order Part 1 of 6’ outsold any title from Marvel Comics in January of 2018.

The Walking Dead got the New World Order storyline off to a fast start in January of 2018 by introducing a new group of survivors and giving readers several other surprises to change the course of the series.

Of course, a new story arc usually breathes some fresh air into the zombie survival comic. However, it is hard to imagine that ‘New World Order Part 1 of 6’ would get the amazing response that it did.

Robert Kirkman, the creator and writer of The Walking Dead, recently took to his Twitter account to drop a humblebrag on his followers while announcing an amazing accomplishment for issue 175 of the comics.

DC Comics still dominated the charts, owning the first four spots. However, The Walking Dead clocked in at #5 and was the only comic not published by Marvel or DC to land in the top 100 in sales according to Comichron.

Here is their top 10 list for January 2018:

  1. Doomsday Clock #3
  2. Dark Nights Metal #5
  3. Batman #38
  4. Batman #39
  5. The Walking Dead #175
  6. Avengers #675
  7. Batman White Knight #4
  8. Amazing Spider-Man Venom Inc Omega #1
  9. Batman and the Signal #1
  10. Old Man Hawkeye #1

It’s easy to forget that Robert Kirkman spent time at Marvel Comics. Considering the success of The Walking Dead, his work as a writer at Marvel attempting to revive or spin-off comics is a footnote in his success. However, he hasn’t forgotten those roots or what people have told him when he took a gamble on himself to succeed.
