Cover analysis of The Walking Dead 183: And Michonne Without Her Sword
By Adam Carlson
The cover of The Walking Dead issue 183 titled ‘And Michonne Without Her Sword’ shows panic and flames in the streets of The Commonwealth.
Recently, things haven’t been looking great for relations between the survivors in Alexandria and the people of The Commonwealth in The Walking Dead comics. Fights between the communities have already broken out and their leaders have been involved in an intense staredown.
The cover for the September 2018 issue of the comics shows that things may not be that great at The Commonwealth despite having bakeries, sporting events, and more creature comforts, it appears as though everyone isn’t happy.
Check out the cover for issue 183 titled ‘And Michonne Without Her Sword’ as shared on the official Image Comics website:
Things look really bad on this cover. People are throwing Molotov cocktails in the streets with fire everywhere, including on the side of the buildings and on the pavement. Weapons are being branded and it appears as though an uprising is happening.
Maybe this is a class war, with the more underprivileged members of The Commonwealth or its surrounding communities growing tired of working themselves ragged for the benefit of the upper class.
One thing for certain is that Michonne is looking out for her daughter Elodie. While Elodie looks frantic and possibly pained, Michonne is either holding her up or holding her back, protecting her from the chaos around her.
There will also be a variant cover for the September 5, 2018 issue and will feature artwork from Bill Sienkiewicz depicting King Ezekiel in his unique and award-winning style in celebration of 15 yards of comic book series.
