Michonne and Rick have been surviving together for a long time in The Walking Dead comics, but now there seems to be a massive rift between the characters.

Introduced all the way back in issue 19 of The Walking Dead comics, Michonne has become an important piece of the comic book universe and was used as a bridge between Alexandria and The Commonwealth in the recent storyline.

After reuniting with her daughter Elodie, Michonne made the tough decision to stay at The Commonwealth and take on a role within the community’s legal system. But when battle lines started to be drawn between the groups, the idea of where Michonne stood wasn’t clear.

Of course, she has grown close to Rick Grimes and the others she has come so far with, but when it came time to talk to Rick and Dwight about what needed to be done at The Commonwealth, she instead ambushed them by having Pamela listen in.

During a standoff between Dwight and Pamela, Rick did what he felt he needed to do to defuse the situation and shot Dwight in the head to save him from starting what would be a massive war and likely kill everyone visiting the community who opposed those in power.

At the end of issue 186, things got heated between Rick and Michonne. He blamed for putting him in the situation where Dwight had to be eliminated from the situation and questioned her trust in him to take care of him. Meanwhile, she refused to take the blame for the situation or apologize for what happened, setting up what could be some very interesting developments.

Strangely, Pamela’s actions should make Michonne question everything about The Commonwealth even more, even making her want to pull Elodie out of the community and return back with Rick when he goes home.

But that might not be an option anymore. Now, with his harsh words toward her, the rift may force her to get even closer to Pamela, who likely trusts her even more after showing her the mutiny that Dwight had been scheming.

This means Michonne may actually join the group of antagonists, which would be an odd and interesting development since fans have been rooting for her for so long. Plus, it isn’t cut and dry that she intended to put Rick in that situation, so the line as to right and wrong is still quite vague.

Admittedly, fans had to know a peaceful situation between The Commonwealth and Rick’s group had to eventually come to an end, but it’s hard to believe it will be putting one of the most popular and important characters in the comics in the middle, with one big decision-making the case of whether she’s still with Rick or against him.

Now, an even bigger question is what impact this will have on Rick. Will he see Michonne’s distrust in him as a sign she’s cut ties with him and his people? Will he see this incident as a reason to move forward quickly with Dwight’s plan? It’s hard to tell right now, but this will be something to watch as The Walking Dead comics continue.
