Dave Erickson’s Master Plan For Kim Dickens

There’s absolutely no way that Kim Dickens would be able to reveal that Madison Clark is alive and well without ruining what could be one of the biggest surprises of The Walking Dead Universe. (Side note: Madison’s return would be on par with the discovery that Rick Grimes is still alive)

Dave Erickson’s master plan for Madison was to have Madison Clark, the hero and guiding light of the show, become the show’s villain at some point. What better way to bring her back than as the Fear the Walking Dead villain, on par perhaps with Negan or the Governor:

"The thing that’s interesting to me, and one of the questions I asked myself and asked Robert Kirkman very [early] on was of the people in our group, who do you see becoming the Governor? Of our group, who could become a Negan? That’s interesting to me, to watch an evolution of a character and start with them as a hero, and bleed that into antihero, and bleed that into full-on villain. It would have been interesting. In terms of the final conflict within the family, it would have been key. For me, there’s a lot left for Madison specifically."

Though Erickson departed the show after season 3, there’s a very good chance that new showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg have been building a foundation to have Madison return as the villain, which would put her daughter Alicia into a very difficult position.

That’s where the Mirror Universe concept comes into play.
