Colman Domingo signs on for Jordan Peele’s Candyman sequel
Fear the Walking Dead star Colman Domingo signs on to join Jordan Peele’s sequel to the iconic Candyman movies.
Colman Domingo is already the classiest guy in the apocalypse on Fear the Walking Dead, he starred in the award winning If Beale Street Could Talk and he’s got a slate of projects coming up that reflect the spectrum of his talent. It’s no wonder, then, that the prolific actor, writer and producer has signed on for another exciting project: Domingo will appear in Jordan Peele’s sequel to Candyman.
Domingo joins Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Misfits and Utopia) in Peele’s project, which follows the story of Candyman, an iconic role originated by Tony Todd. Domingo reunites with his Beale Street costar Teyonah Parris and Peele’s Us alum Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to bring the story to life. Principal photography started this week and all of the filming will take place in Chicago.
Working with Peele is very exciting news. Domingo directed his first episode of Fear the Walking Dead back in season 4, and the directing bug caught on because he turned in another episode early in season 5. In the past, Domingo has talked about being inspired by various directors and Hollywood luminaries over the years. His growth as a multi-talented creator, across many mediums, comes from observing others so just imagine what Domingo will learn from working with Peele.
What’s more is that Domingo’s experience killing walkers, coupled with spending so much time with Fear the Walking Dead horror guru Greg Nicotero, give him an edge as he cements his place in an iconic horror franchise like Candyman.
Though Fear the Walking Dead has just returned for the second half of season 5, Domingo can be seen in multiple projects right now including HBO’s acclaimed new series Euphoria and the short film Nothingman, now available on Apple TV.
Candyman is set for release on June 12, 2020.
