The Walking Dead introduced fans to a colorful new character named Princess. What’s her story? Here’s what we know from the comics.

The Walking Dead introduced a new character in season 10 episode 14’s “Look at the Flowers.” Princess is a well known character from the comic books but it’s anyone’s guess as to whether or not the television version will be anything like her comic book counterpart. Let’s take a look at what we know about Princess from the comics.

It is very important to say that The Walking Dead television show can massively diverge from the comic source material. Characters are not always the same as their comic book counterparts. A great example of this in the current timeline is Dante. In the show, he kept his spitfire personality, but they made him a Whisperer spy, which is a huge difference from being Maggie’s right hand and boyfriend in the comic.

With this in mind, if the show follows the comic books with this character fans can all let out a big sigh of relief because she is one of the good guys. When Princess launched her way into the comics fans were caught off guard. She is truly unlike any character introduced in the comics until that point. From her attitude to her look, everything about her is unique.

Princess is a character who could be described as fire personified. Her real name is Juanita Sanchez and when asked why she goes by Princess her response is, “Because queen makes me sound old.” She’s working to help people and not harm them. Princess is the embodiment of positivity and is genuinely a ray of sunshine. Her unique look and sense of style comes from the fact that she does what makes her happy. She’s a very fun-loving character who is also quite the jokester, which gets her into trouble during her first encounter with the survivors.

Princess possesses two qualities that are very valuable during the apocalypse. One of those is her loyalty; she admits it might take some time to build trust and that she is loopy from not having human contact for so long, however she goes to bat for our characters nearly immediately. The other quality is that she is a very experienced fighter.

As an example of both qualities, during the Commonwealth story the group runs across a very unlikable character. This character tries to flirt with Yumiko and when Magna tries to step in for her girlfriend the character pushes her to the ground. Princess does not tolerate this and knocks the character to the ground along with a few guards.

Later on in the comics it is revealed Princess has a tragic past, filled with things that nobody should ever experience in their lifetime. Her tragic past inspires her to do the things she does in the apocalypse so that she can bring some light to the incredibly dark times. It puts things into perspective and leads viewers accept her that much more.

Princess is a character that has the potential to be very inspiring to others while also being very entertaining. It’s not often we get to see smiles and laughter on The Walking Dead and she could be a very refreshing addition. Of course, this is all dependent upon the television Princess being similar to her comic book roots so fingers crossed that they share some of her most endearing traits.
