You should call your comic shop to reserve The Walking Dead: Negan Lives #1

Though The Walking Dead comic book came to an end in 2019, Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard still have a few stories left to tell, and they’re using one of those stories to benefit local comic shops in their time of need. The Walking Dead: Negan Lives #1 is out Wednesday, but if you’re hoping to grab a copy you should definitely call ahead.

The prospect of a new story in The Walking Dead comic book universe is exciting. What’s more is that Kirkman and Adlard came up with the idea to help struggling comic shops who have been impacted by the pandemic. Many comic book shops have been slow to reopen in some areas, with many still closed, and the effect has been devastating.

Negan Lives #1 is a way to give back to the comic book retailers who helped make The Walking Dead the immense success that it is. The proceeds stay with the comic shops in an effort to help them get back on their feet.

If you’re planning on picking up a copy, there are a number of reasons you should call your local shop today. Quantities are limited so you will want to reserve one. Don’t assume one will be available for you because ordering mass quantities of anything in the comics industry has been a major headache over the past few weeks and months. (My shop was kind enough to know that I would want one before I called to tell them I wanted one when the book was announced)

If you’re not a shop regular, then you should make sure your local shop is open. Some stores are still closed, others are only offering curbside pickup. Some stores will ship a copy to you if you aren’t able to get out yet.

With so much buzz about the issue, it’s important to call ahead if you want a copy to make sure they have one. They will sell fast, and selling out is a very real possibility.
