The Walking Dead’s ‘Negan Lives #1’ to return after selling out

While everyone thought that The Walking Dead was completely finished when it comes to comic books, creator Robert Kirkman surprised everyone a few weeks ago by announcing a one-shot story following Negan, one of the story’s main villains and one of Kirkman’s favorite characters. After quickly selling out in its July release, the comic is returning to stores in August. The second printing of Negan Lives will be available for fans to pick up from comic book stores on Wednesday, August 5.

The story follows Negan, the infamous Walking Dead villain, after his last appearance in issue 174 of the comic series. Many fans were left wondering what the former leader of the Saviors was up to after Maggie decided to spare his life in what turned out to be his final real appearance in the series. After only seeing a slight glimpse of Negan in the comic series’ final issue, Negan Lives gave fans (seemingly) one final story with one of the comic’s most well-known and controversial characters.

What’s remarkable about Negan Lives is that the comic was given to comic book shops for free, with the coverage of outside costs allowing the stores to keep all the profits from the sale of the limited-release comic. This was a fantastic gesture on the part of Kirman, as many comic book shops have been struggling in light of the coronavirus pandemic’s halting of most comic book production. With Negan Lives only being available physically, Walking Dead fans had to go out and support their local comic stores if they wanted a chance to learn more about Negan’s fate.

More details about the second printing of Negan Lives can be found in the following tweet from The Walking Dead‘s official Twitter account:

With so many fans rushing to stores to buy the one-shot comic in its first release – and likely many more in August for the second printing – it is possible that we may see similar one-shot stories down the line. This was a special release based on the circumstances of the world right now, but Skybound is clearly aware of the demand for more stories in The Walking Dead‘s comic universe. It remains to be seen if this formula will continue with other characters, but for now, all we can do is speculate.
