3) Keep Your Eyes Peeled For Little Changes

One of the things about a zombie outbreak, like I mentioned earlier, is that…there will be hints that it’s coming, if you know where to look.

You see, when it’s in the “outbreak” stage, it’s not going to be that you’ll turn around and suddenly see a street filled from one side to the other, as far as the eye can see, with zombies. What it will be is one zombie, being in a place that allows it, and what it’s doing, to go unnoticed.

Like, if you watch the first episode of Fear The Walking Dead, after Nick flees the hospital, Travis and Madison search L.A. for him in Travis’s truck. As they pass by a park, Madison notices a homeless man walking towards them. Now, a homeless person walking is nothing unusual, but, what was was how he was walking: Slouching forward, his arms hanging limply at his sides, and not reacting to anything around him.

That is the sort of hint I’m talking about.

If you, for some reason, suspect you may be on the cusp of a zombie outbreak, those are the sorts of early warning signs you should be on the lookout for. If you start seeing people moving in a unnatural way (Like the homeless man Madison spotted), or suddenly finding out that places you normally see people (Even if they’re the sort of people you would normally avoid) are mysteriously empty when they shouldn’t be, or people looking especially unusual (Like, being a sickly gray color — No normal person is gray), or people are starting to behave strangely (Being unresponsive when you talk to them, disappearing from places you regularly see them, etc.), these might all be signs that something wrong is going on. These subtle changes in what’s usual might just be the canary in the coalmine, warning you that danger is coming.

When the time to prepare for a zombie apocalypse is so small, noticing the little details might make the difference.
