Execs at AMC Studios knows talent when they see it, and then they sign it for long-term deals. It was recently announced that Walking Dead writer-producer, Jim Barnes, has signed an exclusive multi-year deal.

In his new contract, it states that Barnes will develop and produce new series for AMC networks. He has worked on The Walking Dead as well as Gotham, Timeless and Falling Skies.

Barnes has worked on at least sixteen TWD episodes as a producer, and he wrote “Ghosts” and “Stalker,” which are episodes from season ten. Both of these were dynamic episodes that contained outstanding storylines. Next up, we will see his writing played out in season 10c, “One More,” which focuses on Aaron and Gabriel.

AMC Studios produce much more than The Walking Dead, but perhaps Barnes will get to work on some of the new TWDU series?

Could Jim Barnes help develop the new series coming to AMC in The Walking Dead fandom?

Even though filming for the eleventh and final season of the main series The Walking Dead has begun, there is still much more to look forward to in TWDU.  There are the two spin-off series Fear TWD and TWD World Beyond, which will both see new episodes airing in 2021.

Additionally, there is a Carol and Daryl spinoff that will occur after the 24 episodes in season eleven air. And Tales of The Walking Dead is an anthology series that will feature past, present and future stories.

With Barnes already possessing skills and knowledge of the workings of TWD, could he be a part of writing and producing for these new series? Since he has signed a multi-year deal, this could be something they are planning.

It is always good to get new ideas and new people involved, but there also needs to be some continuity, and using someone with Barnes’ experience could prove to be a positive choice.

In AMC’s press release Barnes had this to say regarding being asked to work on TWD.

"“In 2019, I was beyond thrilled to be invited by the amazing Angela Kang into The Walking Dead Universe. It’s a dream job, based on a comic series that I’ve been devouring since issue #1. To now be invited to the table by the company responsible for The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and Mad Men is incredible. I cannot wait to see what this partnership brings, and am excited to be working with an amazing studio that continues to break the mold and inspire with landmark, elevating storytelling.”"
