The Walking Dead’s fifth episode of season 11 is titled “Out of the Ashes.” When this title was first announced, many of us thought it would be about Connie or Hilltop. One of these is correct.

The new promo video for this episode is a fast-paced ride showing us disjointed clips of this episode. It is hard to tell the sequence of events, but we see quite a bit in this quick clip.

So far in season 11, we have seen many events unfold. The group who set out on a food run to Meridian has been unsuccessful; Maggie let Gage die, Maggie and Negan are constantly at odds, and Dog has gone rogue more than once, requiring Daryl to take off to find him. Eugene and company have been interrogated and then accepted as citizens into the Commonwealth. Carol had to butcher horses to feed Alexandria; Aaron is very concerned about Alexandria, even if no one else is. The Reapers, who we have been learning bits and pieces about, have finally shown themselves are a sight to behold. They are stealthlike and dangerous. Oh, remember Daryl’s friend Leah? Yes, she’s a Reaper. And, we have met their religious zealot of a leader Pope.

The Walking Dead have the Whisperers returned?

In the official trailer for season 11 of The Walking Dead, we have seen Maggie wearing a Whisperers mask; in the most recent promo (below) for “Out of the Ashes,” we see a Whisperers mask being taken from what appears to be a basket. Just ahead of this, we see what looks like the stairs to the cellar at Hilltop. I am piecing together what we see in this promo, but Carol, Aaron and Jerry are at the burned Hilltop sight.

So who has the Whisperers mask? Maggie is in the woods with Negan, so if not her, who? The last thing Alexandria or anyone needs is more Whisperers.

What purpose do Carol, Aaron, and Jerry have at Hilltop? We see them stringing up someone or a walker, very curious.

The Commonwealth looks bonkers, like some Stepford community. What is the fake Stephanie trying to pull? I can’t tell if she is trying to pull one over on Eugene or vice versa.

We also see more of Maggie and Negan in the woods.

Next. The Walking Dead: Leah returns and Daryl is captured. dark

“Out of the Ashes” is sure to give us more insight into all these storylines. I don’t know about you, but I think this season is knocking it out of the park, as it should.

The Walking Dead “Out of the Ashes” airs on AMC on September 19. This episode is now available to stream on AMC+.
