The 46th Annual Saturn Award winners have been announced this week, and The Walking Dead has received the Best Horror TV award.

The series was nominated for five awards and walked away with one win. In addition to the Best Horror TV Award, the other nominations were:

Norman Reedus – Best Supporting Actor on a Television Series

Melissa McBride – Best Supporting Actress on a Television Series

Cassady McClincy – Best Young Actor on a Television Series

Jeffrey Dean Morgan – Best Guest-Starring Performance on Television

These categories have me scratching my head. The only one I can agree with is McClincy’s as she is a young actor. Reedus and McBride aren’t supporting actors because who are the leads they are supporting? And Morgan is a guest star? He’s been on the series since season six, and for those counting that’s been five seasons, that is not a guest star.

Saturn Award: The Walking Dead Best Horror TV

It is exciting when our series wins awards, so I should be grateful and not nitpick about the categories. It is just strange how a series that has been going for 11 seasons and has the fanbase of The Walking Dead gets so little recognition with the awards.

Over the ten seasons, the series and cast have been nominated for 56 Saturn Awards and have won 22. Overall, the series has won the most with nine wins, Chandler Riggs has won three Saturn Awards. Melissa McBride, Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira and Jeffrey Dean Morgan have won two of these awards, and Laurie Holden won one. Robert Kirkman won The Innovator Award in 2012.

The Walking Dead premiered its final season in August 2021 with part one of three of season 11. The series is currently on a break until part two picks up in February 2022. The third and final part of the season is expected to air in late summer/early fall of 2022, which will complete the series.

Congrats to The Walking Dead cast and crew for the Saturn Award win for Best Horror TV.
