The Walking Dead season 11: Does Carol Trust Lance?
The Walking Dead 11B is nearly at the halfway stage, and it has already proven to be one of the strongest first halves to a season in Walking Dead history. It is hard to believe that we are so close to finishing this section of episodes and the series as a whole. But, there is still so much to come.
Recently, a new spin off has been announced within the TWD universe. This one, Isle of the Dead, features Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) in New York City. Not much more is known about the plot of the series, but it’s sure to hold many defining moments for the pair. This one is set to release in 2023.
Another promised spin-off features the much loved Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) traveling from place to place. Again, not much is known about this spin off at present but it will be so nice to see the adventures of the iconic duo after the flagship show. During 11B, there have been many moments from Carol that leave fans questioning, most recently her growing relationship with Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton) from the Commonwealth.
Does Carol Trust Lance in The Walking Dead?
During 1110 “New Haunts,” we hear Max inform Lance that the wine he had chosen for Commonwealth Governor, Pamela Milton, wasn’t good enough. After Carol listened to this, she put her life on the line to go and locate a different batch that might be more to their liking. After altercations with several walkers, Carol returns with the wine which amazes Lance and in exchange she wants King Ezekiel’s place in line for medical treatment to be moved up, after she learned that by the time he gets seen it maybe too late. This storyline shows Carol’s caring side as at the end of the day, she just wants Ezekiel to have access to the treatment he so desperately needs.
During 1111 “Rogue Element,” we see both Carol and Lance out on business. Lance details to Carol that he would like her help within the Community and thinks that she could prove to be valuable. So far it seems her wine endeavours have worked in her favour as it has led to more time with Lance and him being more open to her about his journey to his current position as a deputy governor within the community.
The episode further explores the inner workings of an opium farm that works with the Commonwealth and the dodgy doings of the owner, Moto, of whom Carol undercovers his theft and violent acts to his workers after talking to them. She informs Lance who orders his arrest straight away. This is a vital moment between the two as Lance seems to be building a trust with her, however she has yet to fully express her thoughts on what she thinks of him.
During their scenes together Lance has come across as being trustworthy and taking control to protect those around him. Whilst he still cannot fully be trusted as it seems he puts himself first, at this moment in time – Carol may not think he is all that bad, but that doesn’t mean she trusts him. I think Lance has recognised the strong and fierce woman she is and wants her on side for future events.
It is no secret Carol sometimes like being a lone wolf. We have seen that during previous seasons she is extremely clever and if necessary, will play an act to anyone she needs to figure out. I feel we are still at this stage with her; it’s almost like she’s gaining as much information on what goes on outside the walls to benefit her and her loved one’s lives inside the walls; so the closer she can get to Lance the better.
In conclusion, does Carol trust Lance? I think not. There has been too many occasions where people breach their trust within the broken World they reside in and it doesn’t end well. However, there is still plenty to come from their evolving story and I cannot wait to see what happens within the rest of the episodes! Who knows, maybe Carol will uncover something significant about Lance that will change the entire dynamic – we will just have to wait and see!
