The Walking Dead has certainly taken fans through a stressful yet rewarding journey for 10 seasons, and season 11 is looking to be just as amazing. There is a lot of arcs to look into this season, from the relationship between Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) to discovering that Connie (Lauren Ridloff) is alive, and it is sure to be jam packed. Let’s not forget the introduction of some new characters.

What makes this series so great is the attention to detail. So many elements make up the gripping episodes that keep us on the edge of our seats, and this all revolves around where exactly we are watching these stories unfold. The Walking Dead wouldn’t be the show it is without its locations and communities.

It hasn’t been uncommon to see some communities who were thought were good take a full turn and actually be awful. Terminus was the place of nightmares, Woodbury was built on lies, and the prison had potential, but I think we all remember what happened there. Alexandria has been through a lot and will continue to try and hold up, but during 1016 “A Certain Doom,” we were introduced to a huge new community, the Commonwealth, which is somewhere unlike anything we have seen so far on the show.

The Walking Dead communities have proved to either be too good to be true or usually fall at the hands of villains. But, the new community in the spotlight is that of the Commonwealth. We haven’t seen a lot of this mysterious community, however, coming into season 11 that is guaranteed to change.

But what do we know so far? Well, we know that upon meeting new guests or potential allies, they surround you with armor-wearing troops, throw you into train cars and restrain you, which doesn’t sound like the warmest of welcomes, but in an apocalypse, I guess you never know what will happen. We also know that they have a Commonwealth Army lead by a general who will play a really prominent part in this story arc named Mercer (Michael James Shaw).

Mercer has been teased in trailers from season 11 so we know he will be gracing our screens very soon and we better brace ourselves as he is not one to be messed with. From what we know, the Commonwealth undertakes an extreme interrogation process with everyone they come into contact with to see if they are worthy of a place within the walls of this community. Mercer seems to have a very prominent role in this process. But let’s hope he has some mercy with Princess, Ezekiel, Eugene and Yumiko – after all, they have been through enough.

If we look at the comics, Mercer eventually ends up in a relationship with Princess, and they live a happy life still at the Commonwealth. This would mean that, yes, it can be home for some of our loved characters. We know the TV show diverts from the comic arcs, so we may not see this on-screen, but I feel it would be quite cool to see the duo together!

Can the Commonwealth be home sweet home for outsiders? I think so! Maybe some will fit in more than others, but there will definitely be issues; it is, after all, The Walking Dead, and nothing is ever easy.

Whatever happens in season 11, let’s hope it ends better than it did for poor Rick in the comics. I think we would all love to see our favorites settle down, live happy lives, and get the security they deserve! Who knows, maybe the new beginning for all of them is in the place, which at the moment seems like another obstacle.
