Jeffrey Dean Morgan ramps up excitement for Isle of the Dead
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead universe will continue to live on despite the ending of the flagship series and comic storyline. The Walking Dead began a course that has propelled the franchise into something no one, not even comic creator Robert Kirkman, could have imagined. There are several spinoffs in the works, with the first one, Fear the Walking Dead heading into its eighth season, including Isle of the Dead, which will star Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Negan and Lauren Cohan as Maggie.
This series will be set on the island of Manhattan, which has long been cut off from the mainland. It has yet to be announced or shown in the main series what will send them to this location. The paring of Negan and Maggie is a surprise as their history hasn’t been one of common ground. Maggie has begun to trust him, but that doesn’t mean she has forgiven or will ever forget her husband, Glenn’s brutal murder at the hands of Negan.
This series’ plot has been kept secret, and the only other cast announcement has been Gaius Charles. His IMDB listing states his character name is Izaak, but the original Deadline announcement said it is Perlie Armstrong.
Isle of the Dead – Jeffrey Dean Morgan
Morgan recently generated much excitement for Isle of the Dead via social media. He shared that he and Cohan have read the script, and it will blow fans’ f’ing minds. He also stated that he is thrilled to continue Negan’s journey and to work with Cohan.
A few days later, he praised Alycia Debnam-Carey for her role as Alicia Clark on Fear the Walking Dead via Twitter as she announced her departure from the series after seven seasons. He asked her how she felt about New York, implying Alicia should join Negan and Maggie on Isle of the Dead. Now, that would make this spinoff even more interesting! We’ve had TWD to Fear TWD crossovers; it only makes sense for the reverse to happen.
Whatever the case, Isle of the Dead is a highly anticipate spinoff that fans are anxious to see. Negan and Maggie have their die-hard fans, and each has their haters but are undoubtedly two strong characters with more stories to tell.
Filming is set to begin this summer in Manhattan and New Jersey for Isle of the Dead, with a release sometime in 2023.
