The Walking Dead series has had many unlikeable characters during its eleven-season run. There are many characters who never made it to fan-favorite status due to their annoying traits and character design. One that comes to mind that fits into this category is Andrea. She was disloyal, irritating, and made many poor decisions.
The sad thing about Andrea is her comic book counterpart was a badass who could have done so well in the series. She was a powerful and skilled woman who would eventually come alongside Rick Grimes as his wife.
The series version was quite different. She set fans off at her introduction when she pulled a gun on Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). With her high and mighty attitude in this scene, fans were delighted when Rick was able to knock her down a peg by telling her the safety of her gun was on. Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) tried to be a friend to her, although quite nosey; he had her best interests in mind, but she was just mean to him. She had terrible taste in men, first Shane (Jon Bernthal) and then the Governor (David Morrissey). After all Michonne (Danai Gurira) did for her, she chose Woodbury over her friend and then didn’t kill the Governor when she could have.
To top it off, she shot fan-favorite Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus). She was always at odds with Lori (Sarah Wayne Callis), another who was never a favorite, but this seemed to be out of jealousy more than anything. On multiple occasions, she put others’ lives at stake.
She didn’t do much to redeem herself in the eyes of viewers.
The Walking Dead – Andrea
Andrea was portrayed by Laurie Holden, an extremely talented actress. She is currently portraying the Crimson Countess on the wildly popular Prime Video series The Boys. The Crimson Countess is a Vought Superheronie, and her abilities are heat vision and manipulation and fire. She is a parody of the MCU’s Scarlet Witch.
Her big break came early in her career when she was cast in the TNT movie Young Catherine. She starred in this series with Vanessa Redgrave and Christopher Plummer and portrayed Princess Deshkova. This movie also stars fellow Walking Dead universe actress Julia Ormond who starred in the spinoff series TWD: World Beyond.
Other roles she is well known for include The Magnificent Seven, X-Files, The Shield, The Americans, Proven Innocent and voice acting in the animated Arctic Dogs.
She has several ties to Frank Darabont, the original showrunner for The Walking Dead. She starred in two of his films, The Majestic, her big-screen debut, and The Mist.
Andrea’s death on The Walking Dead was sad, no matter how you felt about her character. Luckily she was able to make amends with Michonne before her death.
