When does the new season of The Walking Dead start?
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead series has had a fantastic 12-year run. Granted, it has had its highs and lows, like any series that airs for eleven seasons, but the fan base has remained strong. It will continue to grow as more series are created within The Walking Dead universe.
When does the new season start? Well, new episodes will begin airing on AMC on October 2 at 9 p.m. ET, but it is the continuation of season 11 that is also the final for the series. On November 20, 2022, the last episode of the series will air, and this chapter of the story will end.
The eleventh and final season of the series was segmented into three parts. Part one began airing in August 2021, part 2 in February 2022, and the last in October 2022. It is unreal for fans of the series to believe the end is finally upon us, but here we are.
The official trailer for the last eight episodes shows a lot of action and several of our survivors in precarious situations. Who will make it out alive? We know a number of them will due to spinoff series, but there are many whose fates we won’t know until the final credits roll.

Fear the Walking Dead is the main series’s first spinoff, and it has begun filming its eighth season. Fan interest has wained during the seventh season of this series as it wasn’t the best season of the series. Fan favorite Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) returned in the season finale, so perhaps her return will spark interest once again.
On August 14, the next spinoff, Tales of the Walking Dead, will begin airing the first of six episodes of its first season. This anthology series doesn’t need to be classified as a spinoff as it tells unique stories with new characters.
Isle of the Dead is the Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) spinoff that will see these two characters travel to Manhattan for an unknown mission. Walking Dead show creators have stated that the flagship series will not set up this and other spinoffs. So far, we know that Manhattan was cut off at the onset of the outbreak when the government blew up the bridges and tunnels connecting it to the mainland. Now, it has a horde of the undead one million strong, and the small number of humans who live there must do so above the tenth floor and travel via ziplines.
There will also be a Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) spinoff and the newly announced Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurria) spinoff coming in 2023.
