While fans wait for the return of The Walking Dead series that will air its final episodes this fall, they will have the spinoff Tales of the Walking Dead to tide them over. This series is set in the same universe as TWD but features standalone stories and new characters. When it was initially announced, creators teased that the series would feature new and established characters. So, which established character will be featured this season?

Channing Powell is the showrunner for the first six episodes that will begin airing on August 14 on AMC and AMC+. The episode details and released dates were only recently announced, and the official trailer was released at Comic Con 2022.

During interviews at Comic Con, Powell stated in the first six episodes, only one character will be reprising their role from The Walking Dead series, and that is Samantha Morton.

Tales of the Walking Dead – Alpha

Morton also attended SDCC this year and discussed what is coming for her character. She portrayed Alpha, the terrifying leader of the Whisperers, in the flagship series. She was killed by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in season 10, so the story that will be told in Tales of TWD will be one earlier in her life.

She reminded fans that any back story learned about Alpha was from Lydia’s point of view. Lydia already had a skewed view of memories of her parents believing her father was the abuser. Morton commented that we don’t know if Lydia’s memories are true or not.

Alpha’s name before she became Alpha was Dee, and that is whose story will be told in the third episode of Tales of TWD. Morton was quick to remind fans that we are who we are, and Alpha was always Alpha. In another interview, she shared that she was shocked at the twist in Alpha’s story.

Although fans will most likely be disappointed that more of their favorites don’t appear in Tales of the Walking Dead, there are several Walking Dead Easter eggs for the keen-eyed viewer. If the series is picked up for additional seasons, and this writer hopes it will be, there is bound to be more reprisal of roles in future seasons.
