Tales of the Walking Dead: Who is Jillian Bell that plays Gina?
By Renee Hansen
Jillian Bell portrayed Gina in the recent episode “Blair/Gina” of Tales of the Walking Dead, the latest spinoff series of The Walking Dead. Bell began studying improv when she was eight, would go on to become a member of The Groundlings sketch comedy troupe after high school, and has starred in many notable roles during her career.
In Tales of the Walking Dead, her character Gina worked at an insurance company called Circle of Trust. She worked for a self-absorbed overbearing boss named Blair, played by Parker Posey, and the pair were forced to relive the same day over again, a la Groundhog Day, trying to figure out how to survive the early hours of the zombie outbreak.
Bell did an outstanding job portraying an employee who was so over her boss’s demanding, unfeeling office management. Her facial expressions alone made viewers understand exactly what she was experiencing, as many have worked for a boss like Blair. Throughout the episode, Bell added her bits of dry humor to situations that were anything but humorous as they were generally in a fight for their lives. But this type of humor is a fresh take on the ZA that fans haven’t seen much of in The Walking Dead universe before.
The episode was unique and innovative to TWDU and a prime example of how fantastic Tales of TWD can be as it isn’t bound by one storyline. The creator’s imaginations only limit this series. Perhaps one day, we will learn more of Gina’s story.
Jillian Bell – other roles
Bell was born in Las Vegas but moved to Los Angeles after High School when she joined The Groundlings. She joined Saturday Night Live as a writer in 2009 during its 35th season and would soon star in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
She is well known for her roles in 22 Jump Street, Eastbound and Down, Partners, Goosebumps, The Night Before, Idiotsitter, Godmothered, Dogs in a Park, Gravity Falls, SuperMansion, Human Discoveries, American Dad, Bless the Harts, Bob’s Burgers and Roar.
One of my favorite roles of Bell’s is in the 2019 dramady, Brittney Runs a Marathon. The film is an Amazon Original that follows Brittany, a hard-partying woman who lives in New York City and decides to make some life changes, lose weight, and train for the NYC Marathon. It is a fun movie that you must see if you enjoy Jillian Bell’s work and need some inspiration in your life.
