Samantha Morton cast as lead in Paramount+ Burning Girls series

Deadline reports that Samantha Morton will join Bridgerton’s Ruby Stokes in the Paramount+ series Burning Girls. Morton is known in The Walking Dead universe for her portrayal of Alpha/Dee in The Walking Dead and its spinoff series Tales of the Walking Dead.
Burning Girls is a thriller based on a novel by CJ Tudor from Buccaneer Media. Morton will portray Reverend Jack Brooks, who, after her husband’s death, tries to make a fresh start at Chapel Croft with her daughter Flo (Stokes). In the shadow of the tragedy of their previous church, the pair discover the new village also has its conspiracies and secrets to contend with.
Additional casting includes John Macmillan, Elodie Grace Orkin, Conrad Khan, Jack Roth, Jane Lapotaire, Safia Oakley-Green, Beth Cordingly, Paul Bradley, Mollie Holder, Janie Dee, Rupert Graves and David Dawson.
This series is part of Paramount+’s UK Commissions along with The Doll Factory, which is an adaptation of Elizabeth Macneal’s bestselling novel.
Samantha Morton – The Serpent Queen and The Whale
On September 11, you can see Morton’s portrayal of Catherine de Medici in the Starz series The Serpent Queen. This series is based on the book by Leonie Frieda, Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France.
Morton also stars in the A24 film The Whale, starring Brendan Frasier as Charlie, a 600-pound man who tries to reconnect with his teenage daughter Ellie (Sadie Sink) after he abandoned his family for his gay lover. After his lover died, Charlie became depressed and began to binge eat to rid himself of pain and guilt. Morton plays Charlie’s ex-wife Mary. The film debuted at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on September 4, 2022, where it received a 6-minute standing ovation. The film will be released in the US on December 9.
