When does Fear the Walking Dead return for season 8?
By Renee Hansen
With all the talk of the upcoming spinoffs in The Walking Dead universe, fans of Fear the Walking Dead are excited to see what’s next in the first spinoff of the main series. When will season 8 of Fear TWD premiere on AMC?
The seventh season of Fear the Walking Dead was met with tepid responses from viewers, but showrunners promise to revamp the series with the upcoming season. This season, filming moved from Austin, Texas, to Savannah, Georgia, due to more attractive tax incentives. This allows the showrunners to reinvent the series yet again. Fear the Walking Dead has seen transformations in the past while they traversed the US and Mexico, then to Texas, and during that time, new groups have come and gone.
Season 7 of Fear the Walking Dead saw the return of Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and the departure of Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey). Fans were excited to see Madison return, only to be disappointed as there was no reunion between her and her daughter Alicia.
Fear the Walking Dead has had showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg in charge of things since season 4. Some thought AMC would mix things up with a change in showrunners for the upcoming season, but that isn’t the case, as the pair will continue with season 8.
Fear the Walking Dead season 8
Fear the Walking Dead began production for season 8 in 2022 and wrapped filming in March 2023. In January 2023, AMC announced that part one of this season will debut on AMC on May 14, 2023, and during this season, the story will see a seven-year time jump. With that news, the announcement was also made that season 8 will be the final of the series.
Insider’s Kirsten Acuna shared updates on Twitter and that with the screeners of the first three episodes of Fear TWD’s season 8, she also received the following information “I was a bit surprised they gave them (the episodes) out nearly 2 months ahead of the show’s return May 14. Unlike the final season of #TWD, eps will drop simultaneously on AMC + AMC+.” This is an interesting move on the part of AMC as it could see a drastic decline in AMC+ memberships.
Acuna also shared the titles for the first three episodes.

Fear the Walking Dead season 8 synopsis
"The eighth season of Fear begins after the conclusion of Season 7, when Morgan’s (Lennie James) and Madison’s (Kim Dickens) hopes to rescue Mo from PADRE did not go as planned. Now, Morgan, Madison and the others they brought to the island are living under PADRE’s cynical rule. With our characters demoralized and dejected, the task of reigniting belief in a better world rests with the person Morgan and Madison set out to rescue in the first place — Morgan’s daughter, Mo."
