Norman Reedus will continue his character Daryl Dixon’s story in a spinoff series, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, that will be filmed and set in France. During the final episode of The Walking Dead, Daryl shares a meaningful nod with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). In an interview with Vanity Fair, Reedus shared that the actors weren’t together when this scene was filmed.
During filming for the series finale episode of The Walking Dead, Reedus received a bad concussion that halted filming. During the delay in filming, Morgan, who will have a spinoff of his own, The Walking Dead: Dead City, had to leave Georgia for New Jersey to begin filming the new series requiring him to film the scene without Reedus.
When Reedus was cleared to resume filming, he had to film the scene of Daryl looking out the window at Negan and nodding without Morgan. He shared that the final episode director Greg Nicotero explained how Morgan performed the scene and since he and Reedus are such good friends, Reedus could visualize how he would have done the scene.
The Walking Dead – Daryl Dixon
Although they only shared a nod, it was an important moment for Daryl and Negan. They didn’t always see eye to eye, but Daryl, a loner himself, understands Negan will be going away to start a new life. And these two characters didn’t need a long goodbye.
Daryl rode off at the end of the episode and will eventually find himself in France against his will in his new series. Fans are confused about how the creators will explain how Daryl gets to this location. The CR (Civic Repulic) will likely have something to do with this as they are the only known organization big enough to have the means to transport someone that far away from the United States.
Reedus is currently filming in France for the upcoming series that is expected to release in 2023.
