Colman Domingo nominated for Best Animated Short Film Oscar

Actor, writer, and director Colman Domingo is well known for his role as Victor Strand in The Walking Dead spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead. He will reprise his role for the eighth season of the series that will premiere in 2023. Domingo and his husband, Raúl Domingo, have teamed up in an animated short, New Moon, that has been circling film festivals worldwide and has now been nominated at the Academy Awards shortlist.
The Academy will reveal the nominations for the 95th Academy Awards on January 24, 2023, but in the meantime, the shortlist nominations have been announced in 10 categories. The categories are Documentary Feature Film, Documentary Short Film, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, Sound, and Visual Effects.
Domingo’s short film New Moon has been nominated in the Animated Short Film category. This is quite an honor, and Domingo recently announced it on Instagram.
Colman Domingo – New Moon
New Moon is an excerpt from his 2010 one-man autobiographical play A Boy and His Soul, which Domingo wrote and starred. Domingo stated that the group of creators involved with New Moon didn’t know exactly what they were doing but pulled their talents to create something special during lockdown. Domingo describes New Moon as a story about the love of mothers, Black boys, dreams, and the power of Aretha Franklin.
The film is currently traveling the world via film festivals and is produced by Colman and Raúl Domingo’s Edith productions. Previously Edith produced the four seasons of the award-winning AMC series Bottomless Brunch at Colman’s, a short film, North Star, and the upcoming Sing Sing.
Domingo will next star in the movie Rustin where he portrays gay Civil Rights activist Bayard Rustin and the musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel The Color Purple.
