The Walking Dead: Dead City will be the first released in a series of new Walking Dead spinoffs in production. The series will feature Walking Dead fan favorites Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), but this time their story will take place in apocalyptic Manhattan.

Dead City will take place approximately two years after the conclusion of The Walking Dead, which saw a one-year time jump in its final episode. Maggie and Negan will team up to search for Maggie’s son Hershel who has been kidnapped.

The island of Manhattan had been cut off from the mainland early in the outbreak, and the location is now overrun by a horde of one million undead and citizens left to their own devices. Showrunner Eli Jorné likens the series to movies like Escape from New York and The Warriors, where NYC had become a wasteland full of criminals.

When does Dead City release?

AMC recently announced that Dead City will debut on AMC in June 2023. This will follow part one of the eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead that premieres May 14, 2023. If Dead City immediately follows the airing of six Fear TWD episodes, fans could see the new series on June 25.

Dead City will introduce many new characters played by the following actors: Karina Oritz, Michael Anthony, Randy Gonzalez, Gaius Charles, Mahina Napoleon, David Chen, Saint Marino, Caleb Reese Paul, Matthew R. Staley, Charlie Solis, Jesse Reid, John Wu, Jonathan Higginbotham, Alex Borlo, Alex Huynh, Trey Santiago-Hudson, Eleanor Reissa, Željko Ivanek, Aixa Kendrick and Hedley Harlan.

This series will be a very interesting look at the relationship between Maggie and Negan. What drives these two together to take on this mission? When the pair was last seen in conversation in The Walking Dead finale episode, Maggie made it clear that although she is grateful Negan saved her son, she would never be able to forgive him for Glenn’s (Steven Yeun) death.
