On Feb. 15, 2015, The Walking Dead episode “Them” debuted on AMC. This episode would see the survivors reeling after the heartbreaking losses of Beth (Emily Kinney) and Tyreese (Chad L. Coleman). Add to that they are without a community and have had no food or water for a day and a half. At the end of this episode, a newcomer, Aaron (Ross Marquand), will have an offer for them that seems too good to be true.

This episode saw our survivors eat dog meat because there was nothing else, drink rainwater as it was the only thing they could find to hydrate them, and fortify a barn to keep out a horde of walkers during a terrible storm. At the end of the episode, Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) takes Maggie (Lauren Cohan) outside to see the sunrise. Both women lost their siblings within days of each other and needed to see something beautiful amidst their grief.

While they were enjoying the view, Aaron would approach them with hands raised, asking to speak to Rick, the man in charge. He tells them he has good news.

In the next episode, It would be discovered that Aaron was a recruiter for a community called Alexandria. He had been spying on them and felt they would significantly add to their community. Rick doesn’t believe him and feels Aaron has another agenda.

It would be discovered that Aaron was telling the truth, and the group traveled with him to the walled community. This would be quite a shock to Rick’s group as they hadn’t seen anything like Alexandria in a long time.

Aaron would experience great heartache in losing his husband Eric (Jordan Woods-Robinson) and later have a relationship with Jesus (Tom Payne), who would also be killed. He eventually adopted a baby named Gracie, who was his purpose for fighting each day for a better world for his daughter.

In theseries’ final seasons, Aaron would put his heart and soul into rebuilding Alexandria after the Whisperer’s war. He was excited when a new community, the Commonwealth, would enter the picture and promise to assist in the rebuild. This would prove a farse, and Aaron and the others would fight to regain their communities.

During the one-year jump seen in the last episode of The Walking Dead, Aaron and Gracie would be situated back at Alexandria, where the community was finally being rebuilt to its former glory.
