Andrew Lincoln is set to reprise his role as Rick Grimes in a Walking Dead spinoff series, with Danai Guriria returning as Michonne. The series titled Summit will begin filming in February 2023, with a release expected in 2024.

The series has been reported to film in Georgia and New Jersey, and the first look photo below was taken this week in New Jersey. Gurira had teased pictures of herself, Lincoln, and TWD Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple scouting locations for filming. They appeared to be in a sports arena which could mean some epic scenes will be coming in this series.

The Walking Dead spinoff – Summit

Summit will be an epic love story of Rick and Michonne. The power couple was separated when Rick blew up the bridge in season 9. Onlookers, including Michonne, believed that Rick died in the blast, but viewers knew he survived and was taken away by Jadis/Anne (Pollyanna McIntosh).

Years later, Michonne discovers that Rick did survive, and she searches for him. Nothing has been heard of these two characters until The Walking Dead series finale, “Rest in Peace,” which aired on Nov. 20, 2022.

A coda scene for the final episode gave viewers a glimpse into what has occurred since the two characters departed the series. Rick’s scenes showed that he was held captive by the CRM (Civic Republic Military), the organization that Jadis traded him to. He had escaped but had been located by a helicopter, and it is assumed he was recaptured. Michonne’s scenes in the coda took place more recently as she was still actively searching for her beloved.

Summit was initially announced as a series with more than one season, but recent reports state that it is a limited series. The upcoming season will consist of six episodes and was originally scheduled to air in 2023, but filming was pushed from January 2023 to February, so the series will now premiere in 2024.

Fans are excited to see if any other familiar faces will appear in this series. Most especially their children, Judith and RJ.  Many characters from TWD and Fear the Walking Dead could fit nicely into this story.

Undead Walking will keep you posted on any new info on the Rick and MIchonne series, Summit.
