Fear the Walking Dead is quickly winding down filming for the eighth and final season of the series. This season was filmed in Savannah, Georgia, and marks a bittersweet time for the cast, crew, and fans. Colman Domingo portrays Victor Strand, the longest-running consistent character since season 1 of the series. Domingo shared with Undead Walking that he will wrap up Victor’s story on March 6, 2023. He also gave us an exclusive look at his audition video for his role on Fear the Walking Dead.
The video below shows Domingo clad in a blue suit as he auditions for the role of Booker, as the character was presented to him. He self-taped his audition, and fans will recognize this scene from Victor’s introduction to the series.
This scene is from season 1, episode 5, “Cobalt,” where Strand is held in a cell created by the National Guard. He is a great judge of character by pegging Douglas Thompson (John Stewart) as weak and heroin addict Nick Clark (Frank Dillane) as strong. He uses his possessions to bribe the guard to ensure Nick stays inside the cages because he needs a solid ally to assist his escape.
Fear the Walking Dead – Victor Strand
Many say that you can tell the caliber of an actor by how well they portray a villain. Well then, Colman Domingo possesses skills beyond that of your average actor. Victor Strand has always been one character on Fear the Walking Dead who, no matter how he spins a situation, is always looking out for number one.
There have been times when it was thought that Strand would change his ways, but in the end, he always seems to benefit from the situations he creates. In season 7, he came up against Morgan (Lennie James) in a fight for the Tower, the only safe place in the nuclear wasteland of Texas. By the end of season 7, all survivors, including Strand, decided to leave the area to find a better and after place to live. Season 7 also saw the return of Madison Clark (Kim Dickens).
Season 8 will reveal more about the mysterious PADRE, a location long thought to be a haven but turns out to be anything but. The eighth and final season will also experience a seven-year time jump at some point during the storyline.
Thank you, Colman Domingo, for sharing this fantastic audition video with Undead Walking. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for Victor Strand in season 8 of Fear the Walking Dead.
Don’t miss the season 8 premiere of Fear the Walking Dead on AMC on May 14, 2023.
