Renfield premiere – TWDs Robert Kirkman, Josh Mikel and David Alpert

Fans of The Walking Dead will be excited to learn that several TWD names are tied to the new film Renfield. The film is an original pitch by Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman who produces with David Alpert, a TWD veteran who serves as a producer on TWD and several spinoffs. Another Walking Dead name tied to Renfield is actor Josh Mikel, who played Jared in TWD and has a role in the new film. All three attended the premiere of Renfield at the Museum of Modern Art on March 28, 2023, in New York City.
Renfield, a comedy horror, is directed by Chris McKay, known for The Tomorrow War, from the script written by Ryan Ridley. Kirkman, along with his Skybound Entertainment partner David Alpert produces with Skybound co-presidents Bryan Furst, Sean Furst, and director McKay.
The story was pitched by Kirkman, resulting in Renfield, a movie about Count Dracula’s lackey, who has faithfully served the Count for years. For his service, Dracula has bestowed the gift of strength to the servant allowing him to perform the tasks demanded of him by his master. This part of Renfield’s story finds him in modern-day New Orleans, where he meets a woman and falls in love. This gives him the courage to stand up to Dracula and try to break free from his life of servitude.

Nicolas Cage portrays Dracula, with Nicholas Hoult plays Renfield. They are joined by an outstanding cast consisting of Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Bess Rous, James Moses Black, Caroline Williams, Brandon Scott Jones, and Miles Doleac.
Mikel has stated that his role is small but encourages fans to be on the lookout for him.
Kirkman, Mikel, and Alpert attended the premiere event for Renfield at the Museum of Modern Art o March 28, and the film will have its world premiere at the Overlook Film Festival on March 30. The film is scheduled to release in theaters on April 14, 2023.
