Actor Josh Hamilton is currently starring in the Apple TV thriller The Last Thing He Told Me with Jennifer Garner and Aisha Tyler. He is well known within The Walking Dead for his portrayal of the Commonwealth Deputy Governor Lance Hornsby. Next, Hamilton will star in an HBO film, Reality, based on actual events.
Based on writer/director Tina Satter’s play Is This A Room (2019), the film is based on true events and mirrors the Off-Broadway play, with dialogue taken directly from an FBI investigation transcript.
Collider reports that Reality tells of Reality Winner, a former American intelligence specialist, who in 2017 was questioned by FBI agents for her suspected role in mishandling classified information. The ex-Air Force member and NSA translator received the harshest penalty, five years and three months in prison, for releasing government information to the media regarding the Russian attempts to interfere in the 2016 election, which led to the firing of FBI director James Comey. Although considered a hero by many, Winner’s whistle-blowing was a federal crime.
Reality release date
The film will release on May 29, 2023, on HBO at 10 p.m. ET and will be available to stream on Max.
Emmy Nominee Sydney Sweeny leads the cast as Reality Winner, with Josh Hamilton and Marchánt Davis as the FBI agents who question her. Benny Elledge and John Way join them.
"On June 3, 2017, 25-year-old former American intelligence specialist Reality Winner is confronted by FBI agents arriving at her home to question her suspected role in the mishandling of classified information.
