Tales of TWD’s Parker Posey’s cult classic Party Girl gets 4K restoration
By Renee Hansen
Award-winning actress and musician Parker Posey is known for her role in The Walking Dead spinoff Tales of the Walking Dead. She partnered with Jillian Bell in “Blair/Gina,” a time-warped apocalyptic episode in the anthology series. She is currently starring in A24’s Beau is Afraid with Joaquin Phoenix. Posey made waves with her role in the 1995 movie Party Girl which is getting a 4K restoration for its return to theaters.
Indiewire reports that Party Girl will celebrate its 28th anniversary with the 4K restoration and national tour. The tour will begin on April 28 in New York City at the IFC Center and in Los Angeles at Glendale Laemmle and Landmark Westwood Theatres. Posey and director Daisy von Scherler Mayer will attend for Q&As in New York City and Los Angeles.
Party Girl was the feature directorial debut of Daisy von Scherler Mayer, sometimes credited as Daisy Mayer. This was the first film to debut on the Internet on June 3, 1995, and was transmitted from Glenn Fleishman’s Point of Presence Company (POPCO). Posey welcomed Internet viewers live from the POPCO office and then introduced the film. Party Girl would then see a theatrical release on June 9. It has become a cult classic, especially among librarians.
Parker Posey – Party Girl
The film follows Posey’s Mary, a free spirit who lives her life dancing in clubs and throwing house parties. When she is arrested for hosting an underground rave, she seeks the help of her godmother, who bails her out. To repay the debt, she works at her godmother’s library. After her initial reluctance, she gets excited about the new job and becomes good at it. She also strikes up a new romance. Things go south, and Mary must figure a way out of her current situation with the help of her roommate.
The movie also stars Anthony DeSando, Guillermo Díaz, Donna Mitchell, Liev Schreiber, Omar Townsend, and Sasha von Scherler. One fun fact, both Posey and Schrieber would go on to star in the Scream franchise.
Another exciting tie-in to this film is that Posey would join The Walking Dead universe with a role in Tales of TWD, and director Daisy Mayer would direct episodes in The Walking Dead seasons 9 and 10 and Fear the Walking Dead seasons 4 and 5.
