Fear the Walking Dead will air its final season premiere on AMC on May 14, 2023. This is a bittersweet time for fans of the series. The first episode of the first spinoff of The Walking Dead aired on August 23, 2015, titled “Pilot,” and was written by Dave Erickson & Robert Kirkman and directed by Adam Davidson.
This series was announced as a companion series to The Walking Dead, which is set in the same world but would introduce new characters and set on the west coast. Fear the Walking Dead would show another perspective of life in an undead apocalypse at the onset of the outbreak.
Fear the Walking Dead, just like the flagship series, didn’t waste time setting the tone of what was expected in this series, and the first three minutes of the spinoff quickly revealed that this story would be about survivors during the first days of the outbreak.
In the first scene below, viewers are introduced to Nick (Frank Dillane), who encounters his first undead in the form of his girlfriend, Gloria (Lexi Johnson).
Fear the Walking Dead season 1
Viewers of the first season of Fear the Walking Dead enjoyed watching the first days of the outbreak play out before their eyes. It seemed to be a reasonably accurate account of what things could be like with people in denial about what was actually happening.
The introduction of characters like Nick, Madison (Kim Dickens), Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), Travis (Cliff Curtis), Daniel (Ruben Blades), and Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) was an interesting contrast to those from The Walking Dead.
Fear the Walking Dead is entering its story’s final season, and Madison, Daniel, and Strand still survive. Alicia is probably still alive, but Debnam-Carey left the series in season 7. It will be interesting to learn where their stories end up.
Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC+ on May 11 and AMC on May 14 at 9 p.m. ET.
