The Walking Dead: Dead City premiered on June 18, and during the AMC airing of the series, another spinoff, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, released its first teaser trailer. Fans are anxious to learn how and why Daryl heads to France for the next chapter in his story.

Norman Reedus has portrayed Daryl Dixon since season 1 of The Walking Dead. His introduction was that of a backwoods redneck who, along with his brother Merle (Michael Rooker), intended to rob the original Atlanta group. Once Daryl was free of the negative influence of his brother and received love from his found family, he began to transform into a much different person.

By the final season of the main series, Daryl had become a vital member of the communities and was loved and respected among the group of survivors. In his final scene of The Walking Dead, he took off on his motorcycle searching for Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). Still, the recent teaser for the Daryl Dixon spinoff reveals he ends up someplace quite different.

The notion of Daryl or anyone in the United States being able to travel to Europe in the apocalypse is quite absurd. But somehow, the creators of the spinoff will make this happen. From the teaser, Daryl’s journey will be by boat, perhaps a larger one that sinks. But he seems to be tied to that lifeboat. Whatever the case he will end up in France and, according to the synopsis, have no recollection of how or why he is there.

David Zabel (ER and Mercy Street) will serve as the showrunner for the series. TWD Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple has stated that Daryl will be a “fish out of water” in the new series and must reinvent himself in his new location.

One element of this series that should add lots of excitement is the variant walkers seen in the coda of The Walking Dead: World Beyond’s series finale. It will be interesting to see if Daryl can secure a crossbow in France.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will premiere in the fall of 2023.
