The first episode of the newest spinoff of The Walking Dead universe eased viewers into the new urban landscape of apocalyptic Manhattan by keeping things fairly familiar in the beginning. Maggie was first seen looking over the Island of Manhattan before she was attacked by a walker, which she promptly bashed its head in with great force and rage. This reminded fans of the fate of her husband, Glenn (Steven Yeun), at the hands of Negan.

She would quickly search for Negan, and the pair would reunite, non too pleasantly. He soon realized she needed him for something, and she shared that she was raided by a man he knows, The Croat (Željko Ivanek), who also abducted her son. This would lead them to Manhattan in search of the boy.

A new marshal, Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles), is pursuing Negan for crimes he committed in New Babylon, a federation of city/states ruled by law and order. The end of the episode revealed The Croat as he was interrogating Hershel about the man who killed his father.
