By Renee Hansen
AMC’s newest Walking Dead spinoff, The Walking Dead: Dead City, is making headlines with the viewership of its debut episode. The premiere episode of Dead City generated over 972K views making it the No. 1 cable drama premiere of 2023. When does the next episode air?
Dead City premiered on AMC on June 18 and saw the return of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). This story brings the long-time enemies back together on a mission to recover Maggie’s son Hershel (Logan Kim), who has been abducted and taken to Manhattan.
They are seeking out a man named The Croat (Željko Ivanek), a former underling of Negan’s, as he is the man who kidnapped Hershel. They are also on the run from one of New Babylon’s marshals, Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles), who is tracking Negan down for crimes he has committed.
The Walking Dead: Dead City episode 2 release date
AMC will release Dead City episode two, “Who’s There,” on June 25 at 9 p.m. ET. This episode was released early on AMC+. The episode was written by showrunner Eli Jorné and is directed by Loren Yaconelli and Michael E. Satrazemis.
This episode will see Maggie and Negan encounters some native NYC residents while Armstrong battles some previous trauma. Ginny (Mahina Napoleon) tries to adapt to significant changes in her life.
As with any new series, new characters will be introduced, and viewers are eager to see if Maggie and Negan will find allies in the apocalyptic streets of NYC. In the final scenes of the first episode, The Croat had Hershel tied up and talked to him about the man who killed his father, asking if he had ever met him. He also stated that he knows Negan has lived among Hershel’s mother’s people, indicating he has been keeping close tabs on Negan’s whereabouts. There is likely some significant reason for this, and perhaps The Croat has a score to settle with the former leader of the Saviors.
