AMC has done a great job expanding The Walking Dead universe by adding new series. While some may believe the universe should have died out long ago, die-hard fans remain faithful to the main series and the spinoffs created to further the apocalyptic story. One of the new spinoffs, The Walking Dead: Dead City, has revitalized the fandom, but is this a limited series?

Dead City premiered on AMC on June 18, 2023, and became the most-watched drama series debut of 2023. The creators of this series have done a fantastic job maintaining consistency with the main series, giving a familiar Walking Dead atmosphere while adding in the urban setting of post-apocalyptic Manhattan to provide it with a fresh, unique feel.

The first season did a fantastic job introducing interesting new characters while building the familiar characters Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) from the main series.

Fortunately, Dead City is not a limited series. At SDCC 2023, AMC announced this series is renewed for a second season.

The series finale of Dead City aired on AMC on July 23. This season’s final installment resolved some matters while creating a new batch of conflicts that will be explored in the upcoming season.

Dead City season 1 followed the trend of a six-episode debut season featured in the other spinoffs. There has been no announcement for the episode count for season 2.

Season 2 will explore New Babylon’s interest in The Croat’s  (Željko Ivanek) methane, which will most likely reveal Perlie Armstrong’s  (Gaius Charles) lie about killing Negan. The Dama (Lisa Emery) has big plans for taking over the island of Manhattan, with Negan being the key to her plan.

Maggie, who is experiencing issues with her teenage son, Hershel (Logan Kim), who feels that she puts her revenge against Negan ahead of her son’s wellbeing. In the final episode of season 1, she vowed to finish things with Negan and put it behind her.

There is also the matter of Ginny (Mahina Napoleon), the young girl formerly in Negan’s care. She has been deposited back at The Bricks, Maggie’s new community, with the knowledge that Negan, a man she trusted, was responsible for her father’s death. This incident has left her so traumatized she never speaks.

The upcoming season will likely introduce a slew of new characters, as many of the characters introduced in season 1 didn’t survive the story. Manhattan will be a focal point as The Dama begins her takeover of the island, and hopefully, more will be shown in the communities of New Babylon and The Bricks.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will return for season 2 on AMC and AMC+.
