When does Sasha die in The Walking Dead?
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead brother/sister duo of Tyreese (Chad L. Coleman) and Sasha Williams (Sonequa Martin-Green) are two characters who quickly became fan favorites. They were introduced in season 3 after discovering the prison once their camp was overrun. Although not welcomed into Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) group initially, when they finally joined, they became productive members of the group.
Martin-Green portrayed Sasha, a fierce, loyal woman with strong morals and pinpoint accuracy with a firearm. Throughout her story, suffered great losses. Her boyfriend, Bob (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.), died from a walker bite, and soon after, her brother died of the same. She would then suffer through Abraham’s (Michael Cudlitz) death at the hands of Negan. The pair struck up a relationship while living in Alexandria. Although she suffered from PTSD and depression, she was able to move past her grief with the friendship she engaged in with Maggie (Lauren Cohan).
In the finale episode of season 7, “The First Day of the Rest of Your Life,” Sasha meets her maker.
After a failed attempt at assassinating Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), she was thrown into the prison cell formerly occupied by Daryl (Norman Reedus), but died a hero, sacrificnig herself for the good of the community.
How did Sasha die in The Walking Dead?
In the previous episode, while being held in afore mentioned cell, Negan comes to Sasha, and finds her being accosted by one of his Saviors, David (Martinez). Negan kills him after telling him that rape is forbidden. He then gives Sasha a knife and tells her she has two choices. She can allow David to reanimate and kill her or she can kill him before reanimation but then must joined the Saviors.
She chooses the latter. Negan tells her that to prove her loyalty, she must help him stop Rick’s plan against him.
Sasha chooses this opportunity to formulate her own plan. She selflessly takes a suicide pill while enclosed in a coffin, and when Negan opens it, her walker self attacks him. Sadly, her plan didn’t work as the Saviors and Scavengers came against those at Alexandria.
It was quite emotional to watch Jesus (Tom Payne) and Maggie track down Sasha’s reanimated body. Maggie would put her friend down and bury her at Alexandria.
Sasha was a great character, and her death was a significant loss to the series.
