Did Fear the Walking Dead kill several long time characters off screen?
By Renee Hansen
Fear the Walking Dead, like any long-running series, has had its highs and lows during its eight-season run. As the series quickly advances to the November 19 series finale, new information has come to light regarding some characters who have been on the series for quite some time. Would Fear TWD kill these fan favorites off-screen with only a brief, vague mention?
During “Anton,” the seventh episode of the eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead, Madison (Kim Dickens) reunites with her old friend Strand (Colman Domingo). He has made a new life with a husband who has an adopted child, and he now goes by the name Anton.
Strand eventually tells Madison everything about the Tower and how ruthless he had become. He went on to say to her that when the rafts arrived on shore, everyone was separated. Some went to PADRE, and others escaped that fate only to struggle to survive. At that time, he offered to help them, but they couldn’t forgive his past actions or accept his help. He would later return to find them all dead.
Fear the Walking Dead off-screen deaths
The Walking Dead Wiki for Fear the Walking Dead has a list of deaths for season 8; the majority are deaths seen on screen this season. But there are a few familiar names in the middle of this list whose deaths weren’t featured. Are these the people who starved to death that Strand mentions?
- Sarah Rabinowitz – Mo Collins
- Wendell Rabinowitz – Daryl Mitchell
- Jacob Kessner – Peter Jacobson
- Josiah LaRoux -Demetrius Grosse
- Sabrina – Jessica Perrin
- Maya Vazquez – Candice Michele Barley
Brother and sister Sarah and Wendell were introduced to the series in season 4, and Jacob in season 5. Josiah (twin brother of Emile) was seen in seasons 7 and 8, as were Sabrina and Maya.
At least Sarah, Wendell, and Jacob deserve more than a fleeting nod to their deaths. They have been on the series for at least half the seasons. They aren’t even mentioned by name, which could mean they weren’t among this group. If that is the case, where are they? It is sad to think this is all the mention they will get.
Josiah was the twin of Emile, the man hired by Ginny to kill Morgan. Josiah comes to avenge his brother’s death, but when his dog Rufus is killed during the skirmish with Morgan, he has a change of heart. Sabrina, a member of Teddy’s cult, first followed Arnold and the Stalkers but would then join Morgan’s group. Dwight and Sherry discovered Maya as she was searching for her missing son and became a resident of the Tower.
All of these people were shown boarding the rafts as they left Texas and haven’t been seen at PADRE, so it would make sense that these are the people Strand is referring to. Hopefully, they get a better memoriam than a brief, nameless mention by Strand.
Fans will certainly remember these characters, and Undead Walking does, too.
