The Ones Who Live teaser, Danai Gurira describes as Rick and Michonne as ‘crazy love’
By Renee Hansen
On February 25, 2024, Rick and Michonne will return to the Walking Dead universe in a spinoff, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. The long-awaited return of these two characters results in a series dedicated to the couple and what they have endured while apart and features their reunion.
Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira will reprise their roles made famous in The Walking Dead series. Rick began his story during the pilot episode of TWD, and Michonne joined the series during the season 2 finale.
When Rick and Michonne first met, it wasn’t sunshine and roses. Even though Michonne brought the much-needed formula to the prison for Rick’s daughter Judith, he was leary of her presence among them. She would also bring information regarding Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Glenn (Steven Yeun), who were abducted by Merle (Michael Rooker) and taken to Woodbury, home of the Governor (David Morrisey).
She would prove to be a valuable addition to their group with her fighting skills and compassionate heart. She would become a leader among them and eventually enter into a romantic relationship with Rick.

In February 2024, Rick and Michonne return in what is described as the continuation of their “epic love story.” Fans were overjoyed when Rick and Michonne finally came together, forming a badass apocalyptic couple. Together they raised Rick’s children Carl (Chandler Riggs) and Judith (who would eventually be played by Cailey Fleming). When Rick appeared to die in the bridge explosion, MIchonne was understandably distraught.
After a six-year time jump, it would be revealed that she gave birth to Rick’s child, R.J. (Antony Azur). She would then discover that her true love survived the blast and set out in search of him.
The next chapter of the couple’s story will be told in the sixth spinoff of The Walking Dead, which also sees the return of Pollyanna McIntosh as Jadis, who was the one who rescued Rick and traded him to the CRM (Civic Republic Military).
Below is the most recent sneak peek at The Ones Who Live, which Gurira describes as “a really exciting story to tell.” She goes on to say that Rick and Michonne are “so powerful, and together it’s insane.”
Viewers get a good look at Rick and Michonne and see that Andrew Bachelor, aka King Bach, and Breeda Wool, reprise their roles as Aiden and Bailey. These are the people Michonne first encounters when she leaves in search of Rick. They were part of a huge caravan seen in the valley.
Other exciting elements of the sneak peek include looks at Lesley-Ann Brandt as Pearle Thorne, Terry O’Quinn as Major General Beale, Matthew Jeffers as Nat
Gurira describes Rick and Michonne as “some crazy love.” This love has seen them endure so much, and fans are anxiously awaiting the reunion of these two powerhouses.
