If you’re like me and you’re just waiting for the next The Walking Dead spinoff to premiere, you’re not alone. As of September 2026, Dead City season 3 has ended, and it hasn't even been renewed yet. All we really know so far is that the next season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will premiere in 2027.
And to me, that feels like a lot of time to kill.
So, while we wait for the return of some of our favorite characters, why not check out a few shows in the meantime? If you’re looking for something scary, spooky, or dramatic, these four shows are the best ones to check out right now.
All Of Us Are Dead
The first one on this list is a South Korean zombie show that's genuinely one of the best I have watched in a long time. All of Us Are Dead is about a group of high schoolers who must survive inside their school when an outbreak begins. As tensions rise, betrayals happen, and it’s all about who you can really trust.
This is one of those shows where, when it first came out, I got hooked. The zombies are truly terrifying, but in both South Korean movies and TV shows, they tend to take their zombies seriously and make them some of the scariest monsters ever.
But the story is also tight and creates an interesting tale from the beginning that will have you clicking to the next episode time and time again. The only issue is that there’s only one season available, and while a second season has been ordered, it's been years since this series came out. So… watch it with a grain of salt.

Widow’s Bay
Let’s lighten things up with a comedy. Widow’s Bay is a new Apple TV series starring Matthew Rhys. Set in a struggling New England town, it follows the people trying to live there, but thanks to a centuries-old curse, they constantly face supernatural entities.
I don’t know why, but when I think of Apple TV, I never think of them creating something like this. They’ve always been the website for Ted Lasso or Silo or anything else. But Widow’s Bay is a surprising mix of genres that fans love. The series itself has a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes, so clearly, it’s doing something right.
The series also recently won several Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series and acting wins for several cast members. With a second season ordered, this show is worth checking out.

Game of Thrones
While Game of Thrones has some supernatural elements with the White Walkers, you come here more for the politics—and the dragons.
Based on George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Game of Thrones tells the story of several leaders vying to take the Iron Throne, the seat of power in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. But somewhere across the sea, a relative of the former ruling family is building up her own army to take it back.
As a girl who ate, breathed, and slept Game of Thrones when it was on, I still think the series is worth watching if you want a focused story with nuanced, complex characters. While later seasons have plot holes and fall apart in places, they are still enjoyable. And the first six seasons are some of the best television out there. With eight seasons total, this is a great series that will keep you occupied for some time.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Last but not least, I have to give Buffy the Vampire Slayer some props. If you love zombies but want a supernatural change of pace, you need to watch this series.
With seven seasons, this series follows the titular Buffy, the latest in a long line of young women who were “Vampire Slayers,” people who are chosen by fate to fight vampires, monsters, demons, and the like to protect the innocent. Over time, as a Slayer, she grows into who she is meant to be through trauma, drama, and more.
This series will, I think, live in media lovers' minds for a long time. It was a major milestone for women in the supernatural horror genre and gave us iconic characters we still quote and love today. Sarah Michelle Gellar is also fantastic in the lead role, and I will never forgive the Emmys for never even nominating her.
